those who pass through these doors with open
minds and open hearts stand to be forever
In the world of martial arts, filled with egos and arrogance, Pil-Sung Martial Arts is one school working to change the thinking behind martial arts training. Pil-Sung Martial Arts, in Albany, is the joint home of Pil-Sung Tae Kwon Do, Grupo Capoeira Brasil, and Capital District Tai Chi and Kung Fu. Representing the martial arts teachings of Korea, Brazil and China, these three very different and very distinct styles of martial arts are taking home in one school.
There are hundreds of different styles of martial arts currently in existence. Each style puts its own twist on self defense and self growth. Each of these styles has different strengths and weaknesses. Our school's belief is that if a student were to open their mind to see the beauty and benefits of all styles, this attitude will help lead them to become a more whole martial artist as well as better "equipped" to defend themselves in any and all situations.
“With an open-minded approach, Pil-Sung Martial Arts will change the way we think about martial arts training,” explains Master Adam J. Grogin, owner of the Pil-Sung Martial Arts who was responsible for the merging of these martial arts specialties in one place. Master Grogin opened Pil-Sung Tae Kwon Do in 2005, to share his passion for Tae Kwon Do with both children and adults in the Capital Region. “With all the emphasis on getting our children moving and healthy, martial arts are definitely a great way to do this,” said Grogin. “But there is a major component to Tae Kwon Do that teaches character building, self-control, respect and tolerance which I try to instill in my students. What better way to illustrate that to them than by opening the doors of our school to other martial arts that are definitely different, but just as valid and just as important?”
